The Peptide Synthesis Facility
University of Minnesota,
5-290 Hasselmo Hall, 312 Church St.,
Minneapolis, MN 55455

This facility provides custom synthesis, purification, and characterization of peptides. We specialize in long peptides (> 30 amino acids) that offer special challenges, including highly hydrophobic or amphiphilic membrane proteins. We also have special expertise in synthesis of peptides labeled with fluorescent or paramagnetic (spin label) probes. Solid-phase peptide synthesis is carried out using a PE Biosystem Pioneer Peptide Synthesis System [photo]. Purification is carried out using Beckman System Gold HPLC [photo]. Samples are fully characterized by mass spectrometry and amino acid analysis, sometimes supplemented by partial amino acid sequencing.
