Research Interests:

The orientation and mobility of the myosin head during muscle contraction.

I am using spectroscopic techniques to study the orientation and mobility of the myosin head during muscle contraction. A phosphorescent probe or a spin label is attached to the myosin regulatory light chain and the native light chain is replaced by the labeled light chain. Phosphorescence anisotropy in rabbit skeletal myofibrils probes myosin mobility and electron paramagnetic resonance in scallop fiber bundles (done in collaboration with Sampath Ramachandran and Josh Baker) gives information about both orientation and mobility.
